-It is a good maintenance practice to oil and lube your reels before every season. Extra care should be taken with baitcasting reels.

-Inspect your fishing rods for any damage before and after each season and periodically through out the fishing season.

Store your plastic lures in the same package they came in. By doing this your lures will retain their scent longer. In addition, many manufacturers are now injecting salt into their lures which will rust or destroy hooks and other fishing equipment.

-Sharpen or change your favorite lure's hooks from time to time. This will ensure quick and solid hook sets.
